What is Nordmetall?

The college is named after the employers` federation "NORDMETALL" which is a consortium of 255 companies from the metal and electrical industries in Northern Germany (e.g. Airbus, Siemens, Philips, Daimler, but also many small and medium-sized companies specialized in engineering, maritime industry, medical technology and other fields).
The federation represents a key industry with 105,000 employees and acts vis a vis the trade unions, politics, administration and the media in the German federal states Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and northern Lower Saxony. With collective labour agreements NORDMETALL is able to shape labour relations and conditions, such as working hours or wages. In addition the federation offers legal advice on all relevant matters to its members.
Besides that, NORDMETALL founded its “NORDMETALL foundation” in 2004, which supports numerous scientific, cultural and social work projects. Education is a particularly strong focal point for the federation and projects for kindergardens, schools, management, trainers and workers` councils are on offer throughout the north.
