African Heritage Day 2011
The African Heritage day is a celebration of African culture, the people, the food, the music etc and it is done annually at Jacobs by the African students community. This year, the theme of the event was 'the other side of the coin' which was meant to inform the community about the side of Africa we rarely hear about, the good side! The celebrations started with a bonfire night on Friday which was packed with story-telling by the African 'elders', African songs and dances while people munched on marshmallows and sipped on soft drinks. It was a night of fun as non-Africans learnt to move to African music and shake it the African way:) 
The next day on Saturday afternoon, the event commenced in the Nordmetall servery with an opening speech from the Jacobs vice president- Thortsen Thiel. The guest speaker for the day was Dr. Claas Knoop, a former German ambassador to Ethiopia who taught a course on the African Union at Jacobs. The program was packed with songs and dances ranging from the South African Gumboot dance to Egyptian belly-dance to Ethiopian dance, the awesome fashion show that beautifully illustrated colorful African attire and speeches from students. The event closed with a mouth-watering barbeque accompanied by other African delicacies. It was a great event overall and I personally look forward to next year and the year after that. Community Dinner 2011
Be-a-Link and College Nordmetall will host the traditional Community Dinner this semeter too, on April 11th at 6.45 pm.
This will be a dinner for students, members of the administration, staff and faculty. After a random seat assignment you can enjoy 1.5 hours of finest dining with flowers, student waiters, a three-course menu, live music and get to know new people in a relaxed atmosphere.
Price: 6 Euros* in cash or from your campus card (mealplan)

Nerd Party 2011
The Nerd Party on Saturday night turned out to be so much fun :) It was incredible to see so many people dressed up as nerds and having so much fun. The 'Nerdiness' of this party was basically all over the place: baloons with nerdy faces, glasses hanging on the walls, riddles, the king and the queen Nerd... So nerdy...
Everyone loved the riddles. Though a little difficult, the nerds were intelligent enough to find the correct answers and get the free shots, epecially the 'American PI'.
The Cocktails especially made for the party were delicious, just like their names, 1.0, Pass Option, Exmatriculation :))
The Music was right on the money, cool enough to get the nerds out to play. We thank Ed, Kathleen, Cristian and Radu a lot, for their wonderful music.
Also, thanks to Mircea, for taking so many pictures of all the nerds behind the classroom white board full of mathematical (and other) formulas :p (to be online soon).
Last, but not the least, late into the night, Dragos and the last Nerd Queen Sara, announed the Nerd King and Queen for this year, voted by their fellows, for their wonderful nerdy appereances...And this year they are Martin and Aenne. Congratulations to both of them; they looked incredible, especially with their crowns. Hope you guys enjoy your Universum Bremen trips.

Welcome Back Dinner 2011
As students returned to Jacobs back from their winter holidays, intersession or semesters abroad, College Nordmetall thought of gathering everybody into a cozy atmosphere a have a nice dinner in the candlelight as a big family we are:)
Everyone seemed delighted to see friends back, moreover friends that had been a semester abroad. They, Jessica, Lukas, Amrei, Elena, Anastasya, had the opportunity to say some words to their fellows about their experiences abroad in France, Spain, Argentina, etc. Also, students got to meet the exchange and transfer students coming to Jacobs this year and residing in Nordmetall. We wish them a nice stay and a smooth transition to their new home.
College Masters during the night announced two new big upcoming events in the college College Nordmetall Award and Nordmetall Design Competition taking place in May. Everyone is welcomed to nominate and participate.
Apart from the incredible menu and the delicious ice cream, we were entertained by some amazing performances by our students: Yulia, Simon, Anna and Asmit, who we thank for the great performances. They were all amazing:)
Thank you everybody else for being part of this all-college dinner. We once again hope you all had an awesome time. Welcome Back once more :-)! Stay tuned for more events to come...
